GCCP explores lifting colder water from about 400 m to injection near 50 m, targeting 1.5°C of surface-layer cooling. Its Thermal Wall concept studies the potential ocean–atmosphere response.

The research pathway

01

Observe

Establish a reference environment from ocean observations.

02

Model

Study mixing, transport, stratification, and coupled responses.

03

Assess

Quantify physical limits, energy needs, and environmental effects.

04

Validate

Define measurements and objectives for a possible bounded field study.

The approach

Follow a modeling-led research pathway. Compare scenarios against a documented baseline, make uncertainty explicit, and connect findings to engineering and environmental feasibility.

Start the conversation

Develop a focused collaboration around baseline observations, model design, engineering limits, and measurable validation objectives.
